Fire Safety Drills Conducted at Hyderabad Hospitals to Boost Emergency Readiness

Date:

Hyderabad, April 9: The Telangana Fire Department conducted fire safety drills at several hospitals in Hyderabad to enhance preparedness for emergencies and improve coordination between medical staff and emergency responders. The exercises are part of the 99‑day Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu drive, aimed at strengthening fire safety compliance in high‑risk establishments.

The drills took place at hospitals including Babu Jagjivan Rao Hospital and other facilities in the Banjara Hills–Madhapur area, involving doctors, nurses, housekeeping, security staff, and administrative personnel. Staff were trained in evacuation procedures, fire safety protocols, and proper use of firefighting equipment like extinguishers and hoses.

Officials said the initiative comes in the wake of inspections that revealed gaps in fire safety measures at more than 230 hospitals, including blocked exits, missing alarms, and non-functional sprinklers. Regular drills are expected to minimize casualties and improve response times during real emergencies.

The Telangana government will continue audits, awareness campaigns, and enforcement actions to ensure hospitals and other establishments maintain high fire safety standards.
