India Hosts BRICS Youth and Sports Ministers’ Meetings in Visakhapatnam on August 22–23

Under India’s BRICS presidency, meetings of BRICS Ministers for Youth Affairs and Sports Ministers will be held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on August 22 and August 23, respectively.

The theme of India’s 2026 BRICS presidency is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”. Building upon discussions held so far, these meetings will provide a significant platform to strengthen cooperation in the fields of youth and sports among member nations.

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya will chair the meetings, which will also be attended by Minister of State Raksha Khadse and senior ministry officials. Dr. Mandaviya will deliver India’s statement at the meeting of youth ministers, and Raksha Khadse will deliver the concluding address, these meetings will focus on advancing BRICS cooperation in the youth and sports sectors.

Youth development and empowerment will be discussed at the BRICS Youth Affairs Ministers’ meeting on August 22. The meeting will focus on enhancing cooperation in the areas of education, skills, entrepreneurship, welfare, and sustainable development.

The meeting will discuss the recommendations of the Youth Council and the Youth Summit and identify new areas of cooperation. A joint declaration and the BRICS Youth Cooperation Framework are expected to be adopted at the conclusion.

Ministers from the 11 member nations will discuss strengthening sports cooperation at the BRICS Sports Ministers’ meeting on August 23. Under India’s chairmanship, special emphasis has been placed on traditional and indigenous sports, sports technology, sports manufacturing, and finalizing a joint declaration. The event will also include the BRICS Friendship Cycling Competition, country statements by representatives of all 11 BRICS member nations, bilateral meetings, and cultural programs.

Representatives from all 11 BRICS nations—Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the UAE—will come together for the meeting of sports ministers, followed by the adoption of a joint declaration. These meetings will strengthen cooperation in the fields of youth and sports under India’s 2026 BRICS presidency, foster the exchange of best practices, and advance shared priorities.
