The Observer Research Foundation (ORF), in collaboration with the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) and Doon University, will host the BRICS Academic Mid-Term Conference on 29 May 2026 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India.
The Conference will be inaugurated by Shri Anand Bardhan, Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand, followed by a video address by Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd.), Governor of Uttarakhand, and a keynote address by Shri Shambhu L. Hakki, Joint Secretary (MER), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and BRICS Sous Sherpa.
Bringing together experts from BRICS countries, the conference will focus on resilience and sustainability, reflecting the theme of India’s BRICS chairmanship of “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Collaboration and Sustainability.”
The conference will have three thematic sessions focusing on green industrial transformation amid a fragmented global economy, biodiversity conservation through indigenous knowledge systems, and broadening climate finance for an equitable green transition.
Speaking at the inaugural BRICS Academic Forum earlier this year, ORF President Samir Saran said that there has never been a more important time for BRICS countries to collaborate, partner, and consult with each other to chart the way forward. He said that if BRICS countries agree on solutions, the rest of the world can also move toward shared solutions.
Secretary (ER), Ministry of External Affairs and BRICS Sherpa, Shri Sudhakar Dalela highlighted that the BRICS Academic Forum has consistently served as a key pillar of the BRICS Track process by bringing together scholars and policy thinkers to deliberate on global challenges and formulate recommendations for the BRICS leadership.
The BRICS Academic Mid-Term Conference is expected to provide recommendations on a roadmap for linking conservation with economic development, an actionable climate finance framework and strengthening BRICS cooperation on green industrial transformation, thereby supporting India’s BRICS Agenda by 2026.
