From May 15: Mass Verification of Cheyutha Pensioners to Start in Telangana

Date:

Telangana: The Telangana government is set to begin a massive, state-wide verification exercise for the Cheyutha pension scheme starting May 15, 2026. The move aims to clean up the existing beneficiary list, remove ineligible names, and ensure that pension benefits reach only the deserving poor.

According to officials familiar with the process, the verification drive will involve scrutiny of pension records, Aadhaar-linked identification details, income status, and other eligibility documents submitted by beneficiaries. Authorities are expected to conduct field-level checks in both urban and rural areas as part of the review mechanism. Pensioners may be asked to produce supporting documents during the verification process to continue receiving benefits under the scheme.

The Cheyutha pension scheme is one of Telangana’s major social welfare initiatives aimed at supporting economically vulnerable sections of society. The programme covers senior citizens, widows, single women, persons with disabilities, beedi workers, handloom workers, dialysis patients, AIDS patients, and several other disadvantaged groups. Under the scheme, most beneficiaries receive a monthly pension of ₹4,000, while persons with disabilities are entitled to ₹6,000 per month.

Officials indicated that the verification exercise is intended to eliminate duplicate, fake, or outdated records and strengthen accountability in welfare disbursement. The government is also expected to cross-check beneficiary data with Aadhaar and bank account information to prevent misuse of public funds. Sources said local authorities, including officials from municipal bodies and gram panchayats, will play a key role in carrying out the verification process.

Eligible beneficiaries have been advised to keep essential documents ready, including Aadhaar cards, ration cards, bank passbooks, income certificates, disability certificates where applicable, and proof of residence. Failure to complete the verification process may lead to temporary suspension of pension payments until records are validated, officials said.

Telangana is increasing welfare help for poor families, with the Cheyutha scheme acting as a major support. The government is currently checking records to ensure the right people receive benefits, remove names of those no longer eligible, and make the whole process faster and better.
