The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has successfully conducted a nationwide special drive to complete Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) for school children. Under the campaign, Aadhaar update services were provided in over 1.03 lakh schools across the country, benefiting nearly 1.2 crore students.
School-Based Camps Simplify Aadhaar Update Process
The mission-mode initiative was implemented in coordination with UIDAI’s regional offices, state and Union Territory education departments, district administrations, and school authorities. Special camps were organized within school premises, allowing students to complete their biometric updates conveniently without visiting external enrollment centres.
The move ensured greater accessibility and minimized disruption to students and parents.
UDISE+ Integration Helped Identify Pending Cases
The campaign was launched in September 2025 following UIDAI’s successful integration with the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) managed by the Department of School Education & Literacy.
This integration enabled authorities to track students whose biometric updates were pending. Based on accurate data, targeted camps were conducted to clear backlogs efficiently.
Nationwide Deployment of Over 4,000 Devices
To support the large-scale operation, more than 4,000 biometric update machines were deployed across the country. UIDAI has also initiated steps to increase the number of machines to further speed up the process and expand coverage.
Essential for Exams and Welfare Benefits
Updated Aadhaar biometric details are crucial for students to access scholarships, government welfare schemes, and educational benefits. It also facilitates smooth authentication during registration for major entrance examinations such as NEET, JEE, and CUET.
UIDAI has urged parents to ensure timely biometric updates to avoid complications in availing services in the future.
Free Update for Children Aged 7–15
To encourage participation, UIDAI has made the biometric update free of charge for children between 7 and 15 years of age for one year starting October 1, 2025.
In addition to school camps, students can also visit any Aadhaar Enrollment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra nationwide to complete the process.
Strengthening India’s Digital Identity Ecosystem
The nationwide Aadhaar MBU drive underscores UIDAI’s commitment to maintaining an updated and reliable digital identity system. By ensuring accurate biometric records, the initiative aims to support seamless service delivery and uninterrupted access to educational and government benefits for millions of students across India.
