Union Minister and senior BJP leader G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on both the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Congress, accusing the two parties of misgovernance and pushing Telangana into an economic crisis. His remarks come amid heightened political activity in the state ahead of the ongoing municipal elections.
Speaking to the media in Hyderabad, Reddy alleged that Telangana has suffered financially under successive governments. “Telangana has been looted for ten years by the BRS government and for the last twenty-six months by the Congress government. Telangana is currently in an economic crisis,” he said.
The Union Minister claimed that despite elections being held, the state’s municipalities have been neglected by the ruling parties. He alleged that neither the Congress nor the BRS has provided any financial assistance to municipal bodies during the ongoing local body elections, affecting civic administration and development works at the grassroots level.
Reddy further accused the Congress of diverting funds collected from Telangana to finance election campaigns in other states. “Whenever elections are held anywhere in the country, the Congress party collects thousands of crores of rupees from Telangana under the guise of taxes and sends this money to other states for their election campaigns,” he alleged.
Positioning the BJP as an alternative, Reddy said the party has launched a focused campaign to highlight these issues before the electorate. He stated that the BJP’s outreach programme has been launched under the banner “Save Telangana, Support BJP,” aimed at mobilising public opinion against what he described as financial mismanagement and neglect by the ruling parties.
The BJP has been stepping up its political engagement in Telangana through public meetings, cadre mobilisation, and media interactions, seeking to consolidate support at the municipal level. Party leaders argue that strengthening local governance and ensuring transparent use of public funds are central to their agenda.
Political analysts note that such strong rhetoric reflects the intensifying contest in Telangana’s municipal elections, with the BJP attempting to capitalise on economic concerns and governance-related issues to expand its footprint in the state’s local politics.
