Tesla on Friday announced the launch of the Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive in India, adding a new premium variant to its electric vehicle lineup in the country. According to the company, the new model will be priced starting at ₹50.89 lakh and deliveries in India will begin from July 2026.

The newly launched variant features several hardware and design upgrades aimed at improving performance, comfort, and the interior experience. It features an all-black interior, a 16-inch first-row touchscreen with improved responsiveness, and a Zen Grey interior theme

According to Tesla, this model has a storage capacity of up to 2,138 liters and can seat five passengers, with power-folding seats for additional luggage. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and offers a driving range of up to 500 km according to WLTP standards.

The recently launched Model Y Premium rear-wheel drive and the newly introduced six-seater Model Y L have both received the highest safety ratings from several global safety organizations, including NHTSA, IIHS, Euro NCAP, ANCAP, and C-IASI. Last month, Tesla launched the six-seater Model Y L in India at a starting price of ₹61.99 lakh.

“Tesla’s mission is to build a world where there is immense prosperity. Tesla enables the use of electric vehicles by increasing access to its technology and providing charging solutions that fit people’s lifestyles,” said Isabel Fan, Senior Director at Tesla.

Additionally, the company has also introduced financing options for the new variant, with monthly EMIs starting at ₹39,990 and down payments starting at ₹6 lakh. Earlier in May, the Elon Musk-backed company opened its first experience center in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area, marking a significant step in the electric vehicle manufacturer’s expansion plans in India.
