PM Modi Proposes Showcasing Local Products at Railway Stations Under ‘Vocal for Local’ Campaign

Date:

During an interaction with Lakhpati Didis in Navsari, Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted a new initiative to promote local businesses under the Vocal for Local campaign. He suggested that each district should showcase its unique products at railway stations, providing a dedicated platform for small businesses and women’s self-help groups.

By implementing this initiative, local artisans, entrepreneurs, and self-help groups would gain access to a vast customer base—millions of travelers passing through railway stations. “This will allow small businesses to showcase and sell their products, boosting their income and increasing awareness of regional specialties,” PM Modi emphasized.

The Vocal for Local campaign has been instrumental in encouraging indigenous production and self-reliance. Integrating it with railway infrastructure would further enhance market opportunities for rural entrepreneurs, ensuring their products reach a wider audience.

Women-led self-help groups, known as Lakhpati Didis, have already been making significant economic contributions through various small-scale enterprises. PM Modi’s proposal aims to strengthen their businesses by providing them with a high-footfall retail space at railway stations.

As the government continues to push for economic empowerment at the grassroots level, this initiative could play a transformative role in making India’s local products more accessible and fostering rural entrepreneurship. The next steps would involve collaboration with railway authorities and local administrations to bring this vision to reality.
