To strengthen international cooperation in renewable energy and power infrastructure, Shripad Yesso Naik, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, led the Indian delegation to ‘Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2026’, held from October 26 to 28.
Addressing the conference, Naik said that India’s installed power capacity stood at 558.9 GW as of September 30, 2026, with approximately 308 GW, or 55 percent, coming from non-fossil fuel sources. India aims to achieve a non-fossil fuel capacity of 500 GW by 2030 after crossing the 50 percent milestone in June 2025—which is five years ahead of its target.
Bilateral Meetings Focus on Cross-Border Power Links and Clean Energy Cooperation
On the sidelines, Naik held bilateral meetings with representatives from Singapore, Bhutan, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the International Energy Agency (IEA). These discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in areas such as cross-border power connectivity, investments in transmission and energy storage, green hydrogen and hydropower.
Highlighting India’s clean energy initiatives, Naik said that around 53 lakh rooftop solar systems had been installed under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, benefiting approximately 63 lakh households.
During a meeting with Bhutan’s Minister for Energy and Natural Resources, Lyonpo Sonam Tashi, Naik reviewed the progress of the 1,200 MW Punatsangchhu-I and 1,020 MW Punatsangchhu-II hydroelectric projects.
During his visit, he toured Sembcorp’s 326 MWh battery energy storage facility on Jurong Island and Keppel’s 22 MW waste-to-energy plant in Tuas, which is capable of processing 800 tonnes of waste daily. The objective of this visit was to showcase the progress made by India in its energy transition and to strengthen partnerships in the areas of renewable energy, power infrastructure and emerging clean technologies.
