India-Africa Partnership Focuses on Clean Energy, Grid Modernisation

Union Power Minister Manohar Lal on Saturday said renewable energy, grid modernisation, energy storage, and institutional capacity building have emerged as key pillars of India-Africa cooperation.

He was addressing the India-Africa Strategic Partnership Meet during the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026 in the national capital.


Shared Vision for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth

The minister подчеркed that India and Africa, representing nearly one-third of the global population, share common goals of:

  • Inclusive development
  • Equitable growth
  • Future-ready infrastructure

He highlighted that reliable and affordable electricity is essential for economic growth, dignity, and opportunity.


‘One Sun, One World, One Grid’ as Global Vision

Manohar Lal pointed to the One Sun, One World, One Grid initiative as a transformative pathway for global energy connectivity, enabling seamless sharing of renewable energy across borders.


Strengthening Collaboration Through Key Initiatives

The minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to Africa through:

  • International Solar Alliance
  • Partnerships between Africa50 and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited

He cited the Kenya transmission project as a successful example of:

  • Technical expertise
  • Innovative financing
  • Public-private partnerships

‘Transformational’ Partnership, Not Transactional

Describing the ties as “transformational,” the minister said India remains a trusted partner in supporting Africa’s energy transition.

Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in:

  • Renewable energy expansion
  • Interconnected grid systems
  • Energy storage and flexibility solutions
  • Institutional capacity building

Call for Action-Oriented Collaboration

Minister of State Shripad Yesso Naik stressed the need to convert intent into action, noting that energy access is a key driver of economic transformation.


Focus on Sustainable Governance and Investment

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini highlighted the importance of efficient energy and water management in sustainable governance.

Africa50 CEO Alain Ebobissé emphasised that Africa is seeking:

  • Investments with both impact and returns
  • Development of bankable infrastructure projects
  • Expansion of transmission networks
  • Mobilisation of private capital

Towards a Stronger India-Africa Energy Alliance

The discussions reinforced a shared commitment to building a resilient, sustainable, and future-ready energy ecosystem, strengthening India-Africa ties in the global clean energy transition.
