BJP Spokesperson CR Kesavan Defends NEP 2020, Criticizes DMK’s Education Model

Date:

Amid ongoing debates on the three-language policy in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan has strongly defended the policy, calling it a transformative and progressive step towards educational equality. He also criticized the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government’s stance on education, labeling it as divisive and harmful to students in government schools.

Speaking on the issue, Kesavan stated, “Our transformative NEP 2020 is progressive because it ensures equality of education for all and empowers our students and youth. The DMK’s Dravidian model of education is divisive and regressive because it discriminates against students studying in government schools and endangers their future. DMK’s discriminatory mentality and divisive mindset are causing great harm to our students.”

The three-language policy in NEP 2020 has been a point of contention, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where the state government has repeatedly opposed the imposition of Hindi. The DMK has maintained that Tamil should remain the primary language of instruction in the state’s schools, rejecting any efforts to introduce a mandatory third language.

Kesavan’s remarks highlight the BJP’s continued push for the NEP’s implementation across the country, despite opposition from regional parties. The debate over language policy remains a significant issue in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, with education reforms becoming a key battleground between the ruling DMK and the BJP.
