Date:

The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 13, 2021, has completed five years. The initiative aims to strengthen integrated infrastructure planning, multimodal connectivity, and the logistics ecosystem in the country.

More than 1,800 data layers from 58 central ministries and departments, as well as all 36 states and union territories, have been integrated into this indigenous geospatial digital platform developed by the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N). Additionally, the platform hosts over 65 software tools and more than 100 mobile and web applications that facilitate coordinated and data-driven planning across various sectors.

Under PM GatiShakti, the Network Planning Group (NPG) has evaluated 421 infrastructure projects worth approximately ₹20.23 lakh crore. This process has emphasized multimodal connectivity, last-mile connectivity, better coordination among various modes of transport, and enhancing logistics efficiency.

PM GatiShakti Extends to District Planning, Cabinet Approves ITLA

The scope of PM GatiShakti has expanded beyond traditional infrastructure planning to encompass the social sector and district-level development. It facilitates integrated planning for essential services such as roads, schools, healthcare facilities, and water supply networks. A public platform was launched in September 2025 via the Unified Geospatial Interface (UGI), making select geospatial data and analytical tools available to private entities and the general public.

Additionally, the Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of the Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority (ITLA). Its objective is to strengthen planning, project appraisal, monitoring, and impact assessment within the transport and logistics sector. This is expected to help improve multimodal connectivity, reduce logistics costs, and enhance India’s global competitiveness.

PM GatiShakti can play a pivotal role in fostering coordinated infrastructure development, efficient transport networks, and a more effective logistics system across the country, as we work towards the goal of a developed India by 2047.
