India Shines at U17 World Wrestling Championships with One Silver and Two Bronze Medals

At the U17 World Wrestling Championships in Baku, Indian female wrestlers delivered impressive performances in highly competitive weight categories, securing spots on the podium and winning one silver and two bronze medals.

Nikita Sehrawat delivered a stellar performance in the 57kg category to secure a spot in the championship final. In the final, she faced a formidable opponent USA’s U17 World silver medalist Apenesa Allison. Nikita fought bravely but ultimately suffered a 0-6 defeat. She finished second on the podium, winning a silver medal for India.

Garima put up a stellar performance in the 73kg category bronze medal match. After a narrow 5-7 defeat to USA’s Kylie Manuel in the semi-finals, the former U15 Asian champion made a remarkable comeback. She completely dominated Spain’s Paula Benaixa Perez, securing the bronze medal with a commanding 10-0 victory via technical superiority (VSU).

Kamna Babal won the bronze medal in the 49kg category, displaying tremendous spirit. After losing to Japan’s Saika Uchida in the semi-finals, Kamna made a brilliant comeback in the third-place bout against Russia’s Irina Tsidiva. In a tense and closely contested match, the Indian wrestler defeated her opponent 3-2 to secure her place on the podium.
