Telangana Minister Pushes for Swift Completion of 98,000 Crore Road Projects

Date:

Hyderabad: Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has directed officials to accelerate the execution of massive road infrastructure projects worth ₹98,000 crore, stressing urgency in improving connectivity and road safety across the state.

The directive came during a high-level review meeting held alongside Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, where officials were asked to treat all ongoing works as top priority and ensure time-bound completion.

Massive Infrastructure Push

The ambitious programme includes several large-scale projects aimed at transforming Telangana’s road network into one of the best in the country by 2028. Key initiatives include:

  • ₹20,000 crore upgrade of the Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway into an eight-lane corridor
  • A ₹20,000 crore greenfield road project linking Future City with Amaravati–Bandar Port, with a proposed high-speed rail alignment
  • ₹36,000 crore Regional Ring Road (RRR) to boost connectivity around Hyderabad
  • A ₹8,000 crore elevated corridor from Mannanur to Srisailam
  • Development of 6,000 km of roads under the Hybrid Annuity Model (₹13,000 crore)

Additionally, the government plans to construct flyovers and bridges at accident-prone locations and improve rural road connectivity, ensuring better access to remote areas.

Focus on Road Safety

The push for faster execution is also driven by concerns over road safety. Officials noted that Telangana recorded around 6,500 road accident deaths in 2025, prompting the government to prioritise safer and better-designed road infrastructure.

Rural Connectivity and Local Impact

Apart from major highways, the government is focusing on village-level connectivity, with dedicated funds for approach roads and improved access to bridges. These initiatives aim to connect nearly 300 villages, enhancing mobility and access to essential services.

Economic and Strategic Importance

The large-scale investment is expected to:

  • Boost industrial growth and logistics efficiency
  • Generate employment opportunities
  • Strengthen Telangana’s position as a key infrastructure hub

Officials also highlighted that upcoming events like the Indian Roads Congress conference in Hyderabad could attract over ₹20,000 crore in additional investments into the sector.

Bigger Picture

The directive reflects the Telangana government’s broader vision to build world-class road infrastructure and improve connectivity across urban and rural regions.

If implemented effectively, the ₹98,000 crore road development programme could significantly enhance mobility, reduce travel time, and drive economic growth, positioning Telangana among the leading states in infrastructure development.
