S Jaishankar, Iran FM Abbas Araghchi Hold Talks on BRICS and Regional Security

Date:

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a phone conversation with Abbas Araghchi amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East linked to Iranian military actions in the region.

The discussion focused on bilateral relations, regional security, and issues related to the BRICS grouping.

Discussion on Bilateral Ties and BRICS Cooperation

Sharing details of the conversation on the social media platform X, Jaishankar said he had another discussion with his Iranian counterpart.

“Spoke again last night with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. We discussed bilateral issues as well as matters related to BRICS,” he wrote.

Iran Calls for Condemnation of Military Attacks

According to a report by Iran’s official news agency Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Araghchi discussed the ongoing conflict and regional security concerns with Jaishankar during the call.

The Iranian minister reportedly emphasized that international and regional forums should condemn military attacks against Iran and highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation.

He also stressed the significance of BRICS as a platform for strengthening cooperation and urged the grouping to play a constructive role in promoting regional and global stability.

India Supports Dialogue and Stability

During the conversation, Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s willingness to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation in regional and international forums.

He emphasized the importance of finding ways to ensure long-term peace, stability, and security in the region.

Both India and Iran are members of BRICS, which aims to strengthen cooperation among major emerging economies and support regional and global stability.

Iran Reports Damage from Conflict

Meanwhile, reports from IRNA quoting the Iranian Red Crescent Society indicated that the ongoing conflict has caused significant damage across various regions.

According to the report, 24,531 civilian units have been affected, including:

  • 19,775 residential units

  • 4,511 business establishments

The damage could have serious economic consequences for affected communities.

Arrests Reported Over Alleged Information Leak

Separately, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that Iran’s police command under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) arrested four individuals.

They were accused of allegedly sharing sensitive information related to missile impacts and bombing locations with the Persian-language media outlet Iran International.

Authorities claimed the suspects stored confidential details on their phones and transmitted them to the channel.

Focus on Strengthening India-Iran Relations

Despite the regional tensions, Jaishankar reportedly expressed hope that India and Iran can continue strengthening bilateral relations while cooperating through platforms such as BRICS to support peace and stability.
