Centre Approves MSP Procurement of 1.25 Lakh MT Crops in Telangana for Rabi 2026

Date:

Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the procurement of 1,25,855 metric tonnes of pulses and oilseeds at Minimum Support Price (MSP) in Telangana for the Rabi 2026 season, providing major relief to thousands of farmers in the state.

The procurement will be carried out under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) with a total approved value of more than ₹894 crore, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.

Procurement to Cover Pulses and Oilseeds

As per the approval granted by the Centre, the procurement will include several crops grown during the Rabi season:

  • 29,860 metric tonnes of gram

  • 37,020 metric tonnes of urad

  • 55,285 metric tonnes of groundnut

  • 3,690 metric tonnes of sunflower

The decision was taken after the Telangana government submitted a proposal requesting MSP procurement support for farmers.

Centre Aims to Protect Farmers from Price Fluctuations

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the government’s objective is to protect farmers from market price fluctuations and ensure that they receive fair and remunerative prices for their produce.

He said the approval will encourage farmers to increase production of pulses and oilseeds, which are important for improving the country’s nutritional security and reducing dependence on imports.

Preventing Distress Sale of Crops

The Union Minister said the MSP procurement will help prevent distress sales when market prices fall below the support price, ensuring economic security for farmers.

He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is working to increase farmers’ incomes, strengthen the agriculture sector and boost the rural economy.

Boost for Telangana’s Agricultural Economy

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, the procurement will directly benefit farmers cultivating gram, urad, groundnut and sunflower in Telangana and help bring greater stability and growth to the state’s agriculture sector.
