Seethakka Releases Coffee Table Book on Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Jatara

Panchayat Raj Minister Dhanasri Anasuya Seethakka released a coffee table book titled Goddess of Folk – Sammakka Saralamma Jatara at Jyothi Rao Phule Praja Bhavan on Friday.

Celebrating Tribal Heritage

  • The Minister praised the Kakatiya Heritage Trust for documenting the festival.

  • Medaram Jatara is hailed as a symbol of tribal self-respect and Telangana’s unique cultural identity.

Heritage Recognition

  • Seethakka highlighted the recognition of Ramappa Temple as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a proud achievement for Telangana.

  • She said the government is working to secure international recognition for Medaram Jatara in the living heritage category, similar to Durga Puja and Diwali in Bengal.

Call for Collaboration

  • Historians, sociologists, and anthropologists are encouraged to contribute to preserving and promoting the festival.

  • The Minister assured full government support for this initiative.

  • Seethakka emphasized the story of sacrifice by Sammakka and Saralamma as central to the festival’s spirit.

  • She expressed personal pride as a member of the Koya tribe, urging that future generations remember the heroes who shaped the community.
