BJP Seeks Free and Fair Polls in Telangana, Raises Concerns Over Police Conduct Ahead of Voting

Date:

Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Monday raised concerns over alleged procedural lapses by the police in connection with an incident involving the death of Mahadevappa and sought strict vigilance to ensure free and fair polling ahead of voting scheduled for Tuesday.

Addressing the media in Hyderabad, Rao alleged that the police had acted in a biased manner and failed to follow due procedures. He claimed that the First Information Report (FIR) and witness statements were tampered with and alleged that the police attempted to shield local Congress leaders, including an MLA and a minister. Rao further stated that the timing of the incident and subsequent actions raised concerns, particularly with polling set to take place the next day.

Rao said that the BJP had approached the Telangana State Election Commission with a formal memorandum, seeking its intervention to ensure that the electoral process remains free from undue influence. He alleged misuse of government machinery by the ruling party and expressed apprehension about the fairness of the polls under the prevailing circumstances.

According to the BJP leader, the party has urged the Election Commission to take strict action against any police officer found acting in a partisan manner. He said the Commission has assured the delegation that it would remain vigilant and take prompt action if any irregularities are reported during the polling process.

The State Election Commission has reiterated its responsibility to conduct elections in a transparent and impartial manner, with security and administrative arrangements in place to facilitate smooth polling. Political observers note that allegations and counter-allegations often intensify ahead of elections, underscoring the importance of institutional oversight.

Polling authorities are expected to monitor developments closely as voting proceeds, with mechanisms in place for parties and citizens to report any violations of electoral norms.
