Hyderabad, Telangana: BJP leader NV Subhash on Monday strongly defended the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, asserting that the process is essential for safeguarding the country’s democratic framework.
Addressing reporters, Subhash said, “There are petitions received by the Supreme Court about the state governments challenging the Special Intensive Revision. But as far as the BJP is concerned, the SIR is a mandatory process which is being done for every state so that infiltrators, double-voters and people who have multiple votes are removed.”
He emphasized that the exercise was aimed at ensuring clean voter lists and strengthening electoral integrity. “Special investigation is being done so that our country is safe in the hands of our democratic process,” he said.
Accusing certain state governments of misusing their authority, Subhash added, “Some state governments have encouraged Rohingyas, infiltrators and double-voters so that their seats can be kept warm in the upcoming assembly elections.”
He also took a swipe at the Congress, pointing to the recent Bihar election results. “There are zero appeals in Bihar, where Rahul Gandhi has been very vocal about blaming the Modi government and ECI. The Bihar election results expose the false narrative of Congress, which always depends upon foreign nations, foreign funding and infiltrators. It is a slap on the face.”
Subhash urged all political parties to respect the electoral process, saying, “We appeal to all the political parties to form in line with the democratic process and hold the election in a free and fair manner.”
The remarks come amid ongoing political debate over the SIR exercise, with some opposition-ruled states questioning the timing and scope of the revision.
