Hyderabad, Telangana – BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy expressed his satisfaction and support for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025, which has received President Droupadi Murmu’s assent and has now officially become an Act. Speaking in Hyderabad, Reddy underscored the significance of the amendment in the context of India’s legal and constitutional framework.
“Above the High Courts, the Civil Courts, and the Supreme Court, the Constitution is supreme,” Reddy stated, emphasizing that no law or amendment should supersede the Constitution of India. He reflected on the historical context of the Waqf Act, noting that previous amendments made by the Congress government in 1995 and 2013 had concerns related to the judiciary, laws, and even the Constitution.
Reddy went on to say, “The amendments in the Waqf Bill of 1995 by Congress and later in 2013 were about the courts, the judiciary, the laws, and even the Constitution. It was long overdue in a secular country like India. No single religion can have rights beyond the Constitution, and, unfortunately, such amendments and laws were made in the past.”
With the President’s assent, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 now stands as a part of the Indian Constitution, with the goal of ensuring greater transparency and accountability in the management of Waqf properties. Reddy expressed his happiness and pride that the bill had passed in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, ultimately receiving the formal approval needed to become a law. “I’m so happy today that the bills passed in the Lok and Rajya Sabha got the President’s assent and became the law of the country. It stands as part of the Constitution of today,” he said.
The amendment to the Waqf Act aims to bring in reforms that will better regulate the administration of Waqf properties, while ensuring that all religious and cultural practices in India are in line with the secular principles enshrined in the Constitution.
Reddy’s remarks highlight the BJP’s support for the legislation, asserting that it aligns with India’s secular and constitutional values while making necessary reforms to improve the management of religious properties in the country.
