Union Ministers Launch 4th Tranche Auction of Critical Minerals to Boost India’s Resource Sector

Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, along with Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, inaugurated the 4th tranche of auction for critical and strategic minerals today at a ceremony held at the Scope Convention Centre, CGO Complex, New Delhi. The event marked a significant step towards enhancing India’s mineral exploration and extraction capabilities across various states.

The launch event featured several key announcements and initiatives aimed at bolstering the mining sector’s contribution to India’s economic growth. This included the declaration of preferred bidders for the 6 blocks auctioned in the 1st Tranche, the recognition of 02 newly Notified Private Exploration Agencies (NPEAs), and the issuance of sanction letters to Research & Development (R&D) institutes. Additionally, a scheme for partial reimbursement of exploration expenses by exploration licence holders was unveiled.

The 4th tranche of auction comprises 21 blocks rich in critical minerals, spread across six states: Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Of these, 11 blocks are newly introduced, offering minerals such as Graphite, Glauconite, Phosphorite, Potash, Nickel, Platinum Group Elements (PGE), Phosphate, and Rare Earth Elements (REE). Furthermore, the tranche includes 10 blocks from previous auctions, designated as “second attempt” blocks, located in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. These blocks are known to contain critical minerals like Tungsten, Vanadium, Graphite, Glauconite, Cobalt, and Nickel.

“The launch of the 4th tranche of auction underscores our commitment to harnessing India’s mineral wealth while promoting sustainable mining practices,” stated Union Minister Shri G. Kishan Reddy during his address. He highlighted the strategic importance of these minerals in various industries and emphasized the government’s efforts to attract investment and ensure transparent allocation processes.

The auction process is expected to attract significant interest from domestic and international mining companies, fostering economic growth, generating employment opportunities, and promoting technological advancements in mineral exploration and extraction.
