Triple Talaq Law: A Step Towards Empowerment, PM Modi Asserts in Rajasthan

Date:

Rajasthan, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to Rajasthan, highlighted the empowering role of the triple talaq law for Muslim women in India.

“Triple talaq was a threat to the lives of my Muslim mothers and sisters,” PM Modi said, shedding light on the harmful effects of the practice. He further added, “The law on triple talaq is helping our Muslim sisters.”

Triple talaq, a form of instant divorce prevalent in some Islamic sects, allows a man to divorce his wife by simply uttering ‘talaq’ three times. This practice has been widely criticized for its discriminatory impact on women.

PM Modi emphasized that the law has not only provided a shield to women who were vulnerable to this practice but has also ensured the safety of every Muslim family. “Modi has not only protected you but Modi has protected every Muslim family,” he affirmed.

The law that criminalizes triple talaq was passed by the Indian Parliament in July 2019, making it a punishable offense. This groundbreaking legislation was hailed as a major leap towards gender equality and the protection of women’s rights.

PM Modi’s remarks come in the backdrop of ongoing national discussions around women’s rights and safety. His words underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring the protection of women’s rights, regardless of their religious affiliations.

The Prime Minister’s focus on the positive impact of the triple talaq law underscores the government’s relentless efforts to promote gender equality and empower women in the country.
