BJP Leader NV Subhash Calls Congress’ OBC Reservation Protest a “Flop Show”

Hyderabad : BJP leader NV Subhash criticized the Congress party’s protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over the issue of 42% OBC reservation in Telangana’s local bodies, calling it a “flop show” and accusing the party of misleading the public on constitutional provisions.

“There was hardly any crowd. The top leaders of Congress, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, also did not attend the protest,” Subhash remarked. He alleged that the event was purely symbolic, lacking genuine public support or leadership presence.

Congress had recently demanded the implementation of 42% reservation for OBCs in Telangana’s local governing bodies. The protest aimed to highlight what the party describes as ongoing injustice to backward classes in the state.

However, Subhash questioned the legal and factual basis of the demand. “The Supreme Court has clearly stated that reservations cannot exceed 50%. Knowing this, Congress is only staging drama and fooling people,” he said.

Subhash also took issue with the reported inclusion of a 10% quota for Muslims within the 42% OBC category. “BJP has always opposed this. Rahul Gandhi initially claimed it was exclusive to BCs, and now they are adding other communities, creating confusion,” he added.

According to Subhash, the lack of transparency and shifting narratives from the Congress party contributed to the protest’s low turnout and overall impact. “You are mingling, jangling, and confusing people. That’s why the public didn’t show up,” he said.

The controversy over reservation limits continues to stir debate across political lines, with constitutional boundaries, social justice, and electoral optics all at play as Telangana approaches local body elections.
