Hyderabad, Telangana: Reacting to the Telangana government’s decision to order a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, BJP leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy said the move was long overdue but necessary to bring out the truth.
Speaking to the media, Reddy recalled that the BJP had been consistently demanding a CBI inquiry since the beginning of the project. He questioned why it took Chief Minister Revanth Reddy so long to act, but nonetheless welcomed the government’s decision. “The BJP has been demanding a CBI inquiry into this right from the beginning. I don’t know what took the Chief Minister so long to finally opt for it. I think the BJP welcomes this, and all the facts should come out,” he said.
The BJP leader further asserted that the probe would expose the “colossal waste” of public money and highlight how funds were allegedly misused in the execution of the multi-crore irrigation project. “The facts will come out, and those responsible, including former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao, should be prosecuted. I am sure that is going to happen,” he added.
Reddy emphasised that accountability must be ensured for large-scale infrastructure projects funded by taxpayers’ money. He noted that the investigation would serve as a precedent for transparency in governance and ensure that those responsible for financial mismanagement are held accountable.
The Kaleshwaram project, one of the largest lift irrigation projects in the country, has been under scrutiny for alleged cost escalations and poor planning.
