Piyush Goyal Meets Top US Business Leaders, Discusses Investment Opportunities in India

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held several meetings with senior executives of major US companies in New York on Monday. During these meetings, he presented India as a key destination for trade and investment and discussed ways to strengthen trade relations between India and the US.

During Goyal’s visit to the US from September 29 to October 5, discussions held on October 5 covered sectors such as financial services, manufacturing, technology, artificial intelligence, insurance, and other emerging areas. His visit also included participating in the G20 Trade Ministers’ meeting in Milwaukee and interacting with American business leaders in Chicago.

Piyush Goyal met with Blackstone President and Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Gray and Prakash Melwani, Chairman of its international private equity business. The meeting focused on opportunities to further strengthen the company’s investments and partnerships in key sectors in India.

In a meeting with IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna, Goyal discussed further strengthening IBM’s long-standing presence in India and enhancing collaboration in the fields of artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, quantum computing, and other emerging technologies. Goyal also held discussions with Neuberger Berman Chairman and CEO George Walker and members of the company’s leadership team regarding strengthening investment ties and collaborating on financial and wealth management services.

During his meeting with Stéphane de La Faverie, President and CEO of The Estée Lauder Companies, Goyal discussed strengthening the company’s presence in India through increased manufacturing and sourcing, leveraging the country’s growing beauty and personal care market.

Goyal held talks with AIA Group Non-Executive Chairman Mark Tucker on the insurer’s business presence in India and the scope for expanding cooperation across insurance and financial services. The discussion also touched on India’s broader objective of ensuring wider access to ‘Insurance for All by 2047’.

The Minister met with MetLife President and CEO Michel A. Khalaf to discuss the company’s growth prospects in India and the opportunities arising from the expansion of the country’s insurance and financial services sectors.

Piyush Goyal also held discussions with General Atlantic Chairman and CEO William E. Ford on expanding the firm’s engagement with India and exploring new areas for business collaboration.

The meetings held in New York were part of the extensive discussions Goyal had with American business leaders during his visit to the US. These meetings focused on enhancing commercial partnerships and strengthening India-US economic ties.
