District-Level Hospitals to Offer Cancer, Dialysis, and Chronic Care Services

Date:

Hyderabad, April 7, 2026: The Government of Telangana has announced a major expansion of emergency and chronic healthcare services beyond Hyderabad, aiming to make advanced medical care accessible in districts across the state. The initiative includes cancer care, dialysis, and chronic disease management at district hospitals and health centres.

Key Highlights
Cancer Care: District-level hospitals to provide oncology diagnosis, chemotherapy, and follow-up care, reducing the need for patients to travel to Hyderabad.
Dialysis Services: Expansion of hub-and-spoke dialysis centres, ensuring regular renal treatment is available closer to patients’ homes.
Chronic Disease Management: Introduction of heart, diabetes, and palliative care units in multiple districts.
Emergency Care: Upgrades to district hospitals and community health centres to handle urgent medical cases effectively.
Objectives
Improve access to quality healthcare for residents outside Hyderabad.
Reduce travel and associated costs for patients seeking treatment.
Strengthen district healthcare infrastructure and emergency response capabilities.
Implementation
The state is decentralising services from tertiary facilities in Hyderabad to district hospitals and regional centres.
Digital health integration and better referral linkages will support patient care.
The program is part of Telangana’s broader plan to build a comprehensive, integrated healthcare network statewide.
Significance

This initiative aims to bridge healthcare gaps between urban and rural areas, making advanced medical treatment accessible to all Telangana residents. Experts note that effective implementation could serve as a model for other states seeking to expand district-level healthcare.
