LPG Supply Measures: Government Increases Production, Introduces 25-Day Rebooking Rule

Date:

The Government of India has directed oil refineries to increase the production of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and prioritise its supply for domestic use amid ongoing global geopolitical disruptions affecting fuel supply chains.

The decision aims to ensure adequate LPG availability for households and manage supply constraints caused by disruptions in international markets.

Priority to Household LPG Supply

In a social media post, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that the government has taken steps to prioritise LPG supply for domestic consumers.

To prevent hoarding and black marketing, authorities have introduced a 25-day inter-booking period for domestic LPG cylinder refills.

Officials said this measure will help ensure that LPG cylinders reach households more efficiently and prevent misuse of subsidised LPG.

Imported LPG for Essential Non-Domestic Sectors

The ministry also stated that non-domestic LPG supplies from imported sources are being prioritised for essential sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions.

This step is intended to maintain uninterrupted fuel supply for critical services while managing the limited availability of LPG.

Committee Formed to Review LPG Supply to Industries

For other non-domestic sectors, the government has constituted a committee of three Executive Directors from Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to review requests for LPG supply.

The committee will examine representations from restaurants, hotels, and other industries that require LPG for commercial use and make recommendations based on supply availability.

Measures to Stabilise LPG Supply

Officials said the government’s decision to increase refinery production and regulate distribution is aimed at stabilising LPG availability in the country.

The ministry reiterated that ensuring uninterrupted LPG supply to households and essential sectors remains the government’s top priority during the current supply challenges.
