10,000 Women Farmers to Attend Mega Women Rythu Mela at PJTAU Hyderabad on International Women’s Day

Hyderabad: Around 10,000 women farmers from across Telangana are expected to gather at Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU) in Hyderabad for the first-ever Mega Women Rythu Mela, scheduled to be held on March 8 and 9 on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026.

The two-day event is being organised by PJTAU in collaboration with the Agriculture Department to promote awareness among women farmers about sustainable farming practices and modern agricultural techniques.

Focus on Sustainable Agriculture

The programme will feature expert sessions on key agricultural issues, including reducing the use of pesticides and chemicals, crop rotation, fertiliser management and soil health improvement.

The initiative aims to encourage farmers to adopt environment-friendly and sustainable agricultural practices, while addressing challenges such as excessive chemical usage and monoculture farming.

PJTAU Vice Chancellor Prof. Aldas Janaiah said the event will educate women farmers about effective ways to minimise the use of pesticides and chemical fertilisers while maintaining productivity.

“The women will also be sensitised about the importance of crop rotation and sustainable farming methods that help maintain soil fertility,” he said.

Participation from Rural Women Groups

Around 3,000 women farmers associated with the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) are also expected to participate in the programme.

Exhibition of Agricultural Technologies

The event will also feature nearly 80 stalls showcasing modern agricultural technologies, innovative farming techniques and government initiatives aimed at improving farm productivity and sustainability.

Officials said the Mega Women Rythu Mela will provide an important platform for knowledge sharing, skill development and empowerment of women farmers, highlighting their growing role in the agricultural sector.
