RGIA Hyderabad Generates ₹75,000 Crore GVA, Supports 4.1 Lakh Jobs: NCAER Study

Hyderabad: The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has emerged as a major economic driver, generating a significant economic footprint for Telangana and the country, according to a study by the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER).

The study highlights that airport operations alone have contributed ₹30,000 crore in direct output and ₹9,000 crore in Gross Value Added (GVA), while supporting over 40,000 jobs.

Total Economic Impact Reaches ₹1.5 Lakh Crore

When indirect and induced effects are included, RGIA’s economic impact rises substantially to:

  • ₹1.5 lakh crore in output

  • ₹68,000 crore in GVA

  • Around 3.5 lakh jobs supported

With the inclusion of GMR Aerocity Hyderabad, the total economic contribution of the RGIA ecosystem increases further to ₹75,000 crore in GVA and nearly 4.1 lakh jobs.

The study notes that this accounts for approximately 0.25% of India’s total GVA and over 5% of Telangana’s GVA, underlining the airport’s strategic importance.

Projected Economic Impact by FY2037–38

According to NCAER projections for FY2037–38, RGIA Hyderabad is expected to generate a total economic impact of ₹2.13 lakh crore in Gross Value Added and support nearly 9.8 lakh jobs.

Airport operations alone are projected to contribute ₹19,500 crore in direct GVA, which could scale up to ₹1.52 lakh crore after accounting for multiplier effects. Meanwhile, the Aerocity development is expected to add ₹60,900 crore as an induced economic impact.

Long-Term Growth Engine for Telangana

The study positions RGIA Hyderabad as a long-term economic engine for both Telangana and India. The combined growth of airport operations and the Aerocity project is expected to strengthen employment generation, infrastructure development, and regional economic expansion in the coming years.

With increasing passenger traffic, cargo operations, and integrated commercial development, RGIA continues to play a pivotal role in driving Hyderabad’s status as a global business and aviation hub.
