Hyderabad, Feb 23: The Telangana government on Sunday announced the revival of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stating that expert committees have been constituted to address structural concerns and restore full functionality of the mega irrigation scheme.

Speaking at a review meeting with senior irrigation officials, the Chief Minister said the government is committed to bringing the project back into operation after a comprehensive technical assessment. The committees will examine reported structural damages in barrages and pump houses, suggest corrective measures, and propose a time-bound action plan.

Officials said the panels will conduct safety audits, evaluate repair requirements, and estimate the financial implications of restoration. The focus will be on ensuring long-term durability and operational efficiency before recommissioning affected components.

The government reiterated that priority will be given to stabilizing irrigation supply to farmers and ensuring drinking water availability across districts dependent on the project. Authorities indicated that phased restoration works would be undertaken based on expert recommendations.

The Kaleshwaram project, built to lift water from the Godavari River to irrigate large parts of Telangana, has faced technical scrutiny following structural issues in certain components. The latest move aims to restore public confidence and safeguard agricultural and drinking water needs in the state.
