Telangana BJP Chief Questions AIMIM Stand on ‘Vande Mataram’, Calls for Uniform Respect to National Symbols

Date:

Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Monday reacted to remarks by AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan, stating that respect for national symbols and songs should be observed uniformly across institutions.

Addressing the media in Hyderabad, Rao said that if leaders publicly express respect for “Vande Mataram,” they should also adhere to established conventions associated with it. He questioned why certain elected representatives do not stand when the song is played, referring to instances in the Telangana Assembly and Parliament where, according to him, some members have not followed the practice.

Rao asserted that national symbols, the national anthem, and national songs deserve equal regard and observance. “While Vande Mataram is being played, everyone must stand up,” he said, adding that conventions relating to national events and symbols should be followed consistently.

He further remarked that those who respect the nation should not hesitate in expressing that respect through established parliamentary and assembly practices. At the same time, Rao said he welcomes statements acknowledging respect for the national song but emphasised the need for corresponding conduct.

The remarks come amid ongoing political exchanges between the BJP and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on issues relating to national identity and legislative conduct. Political observers note that debates around national symbols often surface in the context of broader ideological differences between parties.

No immediate response from AIMIM was available at the time of reporting.
