The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) reported underperformance in coal production in its Srirampur Area during the financial year 2025-26, despite incentives aimed at boosting output.
Srirampur Area Falls Short of Target
The Srirampur Area produced:
- 57.86 lakh tonnes of coal
- Against a target of 65.16 lakh tonnes
This translates to an achievement of around 68%, significantly below expectations.
Overburden Removal Delays Impact Output
Officials attributed the shortfall mainly to:
- Delays in removing overburden in opencast projects (OCPs)
- Contractors halting work midway
Srirampur Area Chief General Manager M Srinivas said new tenders have been floated to appoint contractors and speed up mining operations.
Mixed Performance Across Mines
While some underground mines performed well:
- RK New Tech: 113% achievement
- SRP-1: 103% achievement
Several others lagged:
- RK-5: 96%
- RK-7, SRP-3 & 3A: 74%
- IK-1A: 81%
- SRP OCP: 59%
- IK OCP: 66%
Mandamarri Area Also Underperforms
Another key unit, Mandamarri Area, recorded:
- 19.81 lakh tonnes output
- Against a target of 27.80 lakh tonnes
This reflects 71% achievement, again impacted by contractors suspending overburden removal work citing losses.
Goleti Area Emerges as Top Performer
In contrast, SCCL’s Goleti Area delivered strong results:
- Produced 4.30 lakh tonnes
- Against a target of 3.50 lakh tonnes
This marks an impressive 123% achievement, making it one of the best-performing units in FY 2025-26.
Steps to Improve Future Output
SCCL officials said:
- Efforts are underway to resolve contractor issues
- Focus is on improving efficiency in OCP operations
- Measures will be taken to boost coal output in the next financial year
