KNRUHS Warns Telangana Medical Colleges Against Illegal Fee Collection, Threatens Strict Action

Date:

The Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) has issued a strict warning to private medical and dental colleges in Telangana over alleged illegal collection of tuition fees.

Fees Must Be for 4.5 Years Only

The university clarified that:

  • MBBS and BDS course fees must be calculated for 4.5 years (9 semesters)
  • Fees may be collected in five equal annual installments, but not for five full academic years

Ban on Advance or Excess Fee Collection

As per the KNRUHS Directions:

  • Colleges cannot collect fees in advance
  • No extra charges can be imposed on students who are detained or fail a year

Strict Action for Violations

The university warned that institutions violating norms may face:

  • Cancellation of affiliation
  • Other stringent disciplinary actions

Complaints from Students Trigger Action

The directive comes after multiple complaints, especially from:

  • Students admitted under the Management Quota

Many alleged that colleges were:

  • Forcing payment for five full years
  • Misinterpreting government rules

KNRUHS termed such practices as:

  • Improper
  • Causing financial burden and mental stress on students and families

Fee Structure as per TAFRC Guidelines

The fee structure set by the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) for the 2023–2026 block period states:

  • Total course fee should be evenly divided into five installments
  • Objective: Reduce financial pressure on families

Focus on Student Protection

The move aims to:

  • Ensure transparency in fee collection
  • Protect students from exploitation
  • Enforce compliance with government norms
