The government has clarified that despite concerns around the Strait of Hormuz, India continues to receive higher volumes of crude oil from over 41 global supplier countries compared to earlier levels.
Officials stated that increased availability from international markets, especially Western countries, has effectively offset any potential disruption.
Refineries Running Above Capacity, 60-Day Supply Secured
India’s refineries are currently operating at over 100% capacity, ensuring uninterrupted fuel production. Oil companies have already secured crude oil supplies for the next 60 days, eliminating any immediate concerns of shortage.
The government emphasized that there is no disruption in supply, and fuel availability remains stable across the country.
India Emerges as Global Energy Leader
India has established itself as a major energy player, ranking as the world’s fourth-largest petroleum refiner and the fifth-largest exporter of refined fuels, supplying to over 150 countries.
As a net exporter, India has structurally ensured domestic availability of petrol and diesel. Across the country, over one lakh fuel stations are operating without any restrictions or supply cuts.
No Need for Emergency Measures Like Other Countries
While several countries are facing fuel shortages, price hikes, and even declaring energy emergencies, India has not required any such measures.
Unlike nations imposing restrictions such as odd-even fueling or forced station closures, India continues to maintain uninterrupted fuel supply nationwide.
Panic Buying Triggered by Misinformation
The government noted that isolated instances of panic buying at select petrol pumps were triggered by misleading social media videos and false reports.
Despite temporary spikes in demand, oil companies ensured uninterrupted supply, with depots operating overnight to meet consumer needs.
To further support fuel retailers, oil companies have extended the credit period for petrol pump dealers from one day to over three days, ensuring smooth operations without working capital constraints.
India Has Up to 60 Days of Fuel Reserves
Rejecting claims that India has only six days of fuel reserves, the government clarified that the country’s total storage capacity is 74 days, with around 60 days of reserves currently available, even amid ongoing global tensions.
This includes crude oil, refined products, and strategic reserves stored in underground caverns.
Government Assures Long-Term Energy Security
The government has also confirmed that crude oil procurement for the next two months is already secured, ensuring long-term energy stability.
Officials reiterated that India’s fuel supply remains robust and that any claims of shortage or depletion of reserves are completely false and misleading.
