BJP’s Payal Shankar Warns Telangana Govt Over Kaleshwaram CBI Probe, Threatens Supreme Court Move

Date:

Hyderabad, Telangana: Reacting to the state government’s decision to order a CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, BJP MLA Payal Shankar on Tuesday demanded a broader investigation and warned of legal action if concerns are not addressed.

Shankar recalled Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s earlier assurance, stating, “CM Revanth Reddy had said that once Congress comes to power in Telangana, those involved in the Kaleshwaram scam would be jailed and all the money recovered from abroad.”

The government has reportedly sought a CBI inquiry into irregularities concerning three barrages—Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla—as per the Government Order (GO). However, the BJP leader alleged that both the Congress and the BRS were involved in the project mismanagement.

Calling the scope of the probe insufficient, Shankar said, “We are giving the government 15 days to modify the GO and include the 15–16 issues raised by us in the Terms of Reference (ToR). If they fail to do so, we will approach the Supreme Court.”

The BJP has consistently criticised the Kaleshwaram project, terming it the “biggest irrigation scam in the country,” and has pressed for a thorough investigation covering all aspects of planning, execution, and expenditure.
