Union Minister G Kishan Reddy raised serious objections to the caste census process and reservation distribution in Telangana, questioning both its implementation and fairness.
Speaking to reporters, Reddy said, “Hyderabad has about 30% of Telangana’s population, but not even 10% of the census was conducted there.” He further alleged that 10% of the newly announced 42% reservation has been “reserved for Muslim communities in the name of religion,” which he claims is unconstitutional and unjust to the Backward Classes (BCs).
The Union Minister added that this percentage had been increased from the earlier 4% reservation that was already struck down by a Telangana court, and termed the new move a “backdoor attempt” to bypass legal rulings.
“We demand that the entire 42% reservation should be allocated to genuine Backward Classes and not diverted disproportionately to one community under the guise of religious preference,” Reddy stated.
The comments come amid heightened political debate over caste-based data and reservation policy ahead of the upcoming Telangana assembly session.
