India–UK Free Trade Agreement a Game Changer for Indian Businesses: BJP’s C.R. Kesavan

Date:

Hyderabad, Telangana — BJP National Spokesperson C.R. Kesavan on Monday hailed the upcoming India–UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as a transformative step in India’s global trade engagement, calling it a “historic milestone” in trade diplomacy.

“The upcoming free trade agreement between India and the UK marks a historic milestone and a pivotal moment in trade diplomacy,” Kesavan stated, emphasizing the strategic importance of the deal.

Highlighting key features, he noted that 99% of Indian exports will benefit from zero-tariff access under the agreement, giving Indian businesses—particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs)—a significant competitive edge in the UK market.

Kesavan also praised India’s success in securing exemptions from UK social security contributions for Indian professionals and businesses for a period of three years. “This will save approximately ₹4,000 crore annually,” he said.

Another major breakthrough, Kesavan noted, is that the deal opens doors for Indian firms to enter the British public procurement market, offering new business opportunities in government contracts and services.

“This free trade agreement strongly signals optimism for our future trade growth,” he concluded, framing the deal as a win-win for both nations.

The FTA, currently in its final stages, is expected to significantly boost bilateral trade, create jobs, and deepen strategic economic ties between India and the United Kingdom.
